Ah so you’re in a state of Misery huh? Missouri is what I meant to say.

yeah I am right in the sh-- storm central here. weve got the south winds from the gulf of Mexico (bringing the warm mosit air) with the cold air pushing down from the north and another cold front coming from the west. I am in center stage of it all. posted this all in SHTF breaking news. will keep you all posted when i can apart to lose power here. lights are flickering due to ice on tree limbs bouncing off power lines. I don't thinks it going to be as bad as the ice storm we had back in 95 though.. that was a bad un.

    Default No place like home

I still have relatives living in Kansas. That particular side of my family tree can be traced all the way back to 1885 to western Kansas.

I have fond memories of Kansas as a child and still hold those memories close.

I spent the night one time in Wichita Kansas at the old Diamond Inn Motor Lodge at the highway interchange that leads into the airport. This hotel has been gone for many, many years but the old timers might remember this old motel as all the rooms were little pods that surrounded the swimming pool with a particular architecture that reeked of the late 50’s

Driving into Wichita from Pratt Kansas as a child and being excited waiting to see the large B-52 Bomber perched up on the stand near the park where and old steam locomotive engine sat. We always had to stop at that park to see the train.

I spent the night one time in the Masonic Temple in Salina Kansas as a young boy with a group of scouts while in town for a small event. Talk about a scary old building to stay in where you’re young, we thought it was haunted and didn’t get much sleep that night.

I have been to Dodge City with my now long deceased grandparents to see the town where my grandfather was born.

I have relatives from one end of the state to the other and have considered the possibility of relocating my “Hooverville” project to western Kansas in the rich bread basket of the nation. I have an elderly uncle who has a homestead there consisting of about 500 acres and might consider purchasing it from him for this project. That particular homestead has been in the family since the late 1800’s

I have been to Garden City to the largest filtered swimming pool in the world and even flew into Garden City at the small airport on Air Midwest. We called that airline “Air-Scare-West” as they used small turbo propped airplanes and the safety announcement from the captain before take off was simply, “Ladies and gentlemen we wonder why you chose to fly with us today but since you did please remain in your seats at all times with your seatbelt tightly fastened, and its best to keep your eyes closed at all times, please keep any screaming down to a minimum so we here in the cockpit can concentrate on avoiding fixed objects, if we make it to our destination then you can thank us” or something very similar. I don’t even know if Air Midwest is still even around buthey crashed in 2004 or soemthing in NC.

I remember traveling through Kansas and getting “bumped” off the airplane in Wichita as a young boy with my little brother. We had been on a Frontier Flight from Dallas to Denver and the plane a Convair propped plane sat at the terminal tarmac with a small stair case used to board it. My brother and I were traveling alone (unescorted by our parents, there were other passengers) and through a ticket / passenger issue and we were taken off the airplane. We spent a couple of hours in the Wichita airport and just roamed around the Airport. We were even allowed to visit the air tower. This was long before airport security was any issue and small boys were often allowed into the cockpit to see the pilots before takeoff, and if you were lucky you got to sit in the captain’s chair if you didn’t push any buttons. My younger brother even got to sit on a jump seat in the cockpit once during a flight for his birthday, those days are long gone and only tell my age when I bring them up.

Here is a picture of an old Western Airlines Conviar similar to the Frontier airlines we were bumped off. Western Airlines is another long lost airline I remember flying on.

    Yes Kansas is great!

    The sunflower = state flower
    Meadow Lark = State Bird
Home, home on the range = State song
