Default have coming a fourth Xiegu G 90 HF radio....

Have coming soon a fourth Xiegu G 90 Hf radio and will perform the modification to it when it arrives.

This will complete my plans for this series of radios and after the mod I will need to go to the Surplus store and obtain two metal gasket sealed ammo box to put them in with foil generously wrapping them...silicon O ring grease applies to the gasket material...

This radio will have applied/attached to it the cooling fan as was the case with the previous three rigs...also wrapped in foil.

Am also planning to get another two ammo cans and put in each a dipole antenna with coaxial cable fed line or ladder line feed...as this radio has in it a built in tuner. I may just go ahead and fabricate this antenna myself....as dipoles are about as simple as one can get...then roll it up and store it in the can...silicon o ring grease applied to the gasket again.

    Thanks,

Have completed the full transmit modification to the fourth Xiegu G 90 HF Ham radio.

This radio comes from the factory, as do many Ham radios, with certain frequency spreads blocked out...gated out via a diode in the circuit. You can receive on these frequencies but not transmit.

Removing this diode allows transmit on these formerly blocked out frequencies. I do not plan to transmit on theses frequencies unless an emergency takes place with the exception of the CB bands. I do go there from time to time to say hello to people I know but do not make a pestilence of myself as do so many on those bands. am not into that kind of chaos....I am not Antifa or BLM...and do not aspire to so become.

MY other HF radios are also so modified as well for Emergency reasons.

I have also installed the factory cooling fan on this radio.

I plan to get a couple of ammo cans and wrap these radios in several layers of Foil. Two of these radios....and put them into these cans...with silicone o ring grease on the gaskets.

Also plan to put into other cans...several long wire dipole multi band antennas and coaxial cable...to hook up to the back off these radios. I will most likely be manufacturing these antennas from materials I have positioned in my garage.

These radios also have in them a built in antenna tuner...so the radio can tune all of the HF frequencies from the AM broadcasting band to 30 MHZ.

Now I have to think about power supplies and how to charge them out in the field....thinking about a portable solar set up and a V 88 power supply.

My Long wire base station antenna is down due to the recent hurricane/tropical storm which came through here...and dropped a tree from two lots over and thus damaged one of my trees for which my long wire HF antenna is in the top of this tree.

I will be working to repair it this week and get it back on line and Q5.

Don't like to have my base station down for too long though I can operate from my truck. But the mobile antennas are no where near as efficient as this 500 foot wire loop I normally use from this base station.

Though I can call him by phone..I miss chatting on the radio with my friend out in Tennessee..some 400 miles west of here.

Have picked up two ammo cans which are wide...for .50 BMG rounds....

I will be wrapping these two Xiegu G90 radios in tin foil and the microphones as well...and putting them in these cans.

Plan to get four more of these cans for long term storage of certain electonics..

Also was a bit surprised at the price increases of these ammo cans. They must have come into greater demand in addition to inflationary cost increases.

They used to be very inexpensive.

However...over the long term I will get more than the cost of these cans in usage out of them.

Today I put the two spare Xiegu G90 radios into tin foil of several layers and then put them into some heavy duty plastic bags. So too the microphones and power chords.

The bags with the radios in them and the microphones and power chords have been put into Ammo cans and they just fit...

Will be putting Silicon O ring grease on the gaskets over the weekend....

Then as time allows ..will be fabricating long wire antennas for these two rigs...and putting them into other ammo cans along with power supplies....

    Orangetomif you have a

OT - if you can find a Harbor Freight store near you, they have very good quality .50 cal. ammo cans for about $14.00. I've been getting mine there for several weeks...stacking stuff. They don't sit on the shelves for long, so I buy 2 or 3 whenever the chance presents itself.

These have been tested and proved to be airtight and waterproof - there are YouToob videos on such testing by like minded folk. Hope this is helpful in some small way. I use mine for seeds and boolits and such.
