Default WW2 History Still Being Made ....

The Nazi soldiers made their orders very clear: Jewish American prisoners of war were to be separated from their fellow brothers in arms and sent to an uncertain fate.

But Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds would have none of that. As the highest-ranking noncommissioned officer held in the German POW camp, he ordered more than 1,000 Americans captives to step forward with him and brazenly pronounced: “We are all Jews here.”

He would not waver, even with a pistol to his head, and his captors eventually backed down.

Seventy years later, the Knoxville, Tennessee, native is being posthumously recognized with Israel’s highest honor for non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during World War II. He’s the first American serviceman to earn the honor.

I can't say with certainty that I'd've had the balls to do that. Some guys are just braver than the rest of us.

the Battle of the Bulge was the first large number of Allied soldiers captured - up that point it was aviators and the Luftwaffe and not the Wehrmacht >> and unfortunately the SS and Gestapo was running the show in late 1944-45 - if you were a German military officer you either jumped or the bastards shot you ...

not to give that bastard RM Goering any praise - but the SS tried the same Jew crap in the Luftwaffe Camps earlier in the war - Goering told them to pound sand ...

Yes, Luftwaffe was made up of "Gentlemen". The British Pilots were in the beginning of the war also made up of those with some Education. During the battle of Britain the vast majority of pilots were Polish, and other nationalities.

Pipper was the General over the Bulge. I happen to know someone who met him at his Chalet in France in the late 50's. When he was asked about the machine-gunning of POW's he said he never gave such an order. The troops who were brought in from the Eastern Front to spear head the campaign were use to executing the Russian POW's because that was the German Soldiers fate if captured by the Russians, or worse sent to a Gulag in Siberia which amounts to the same thing....

It is a shame that the Luftwaffe never openly opposed Hitler. They were in fact the Landed and more Gentlemanly group and Hitler was not fond of them. Had these folks openly opposed Hitler he would have murdered them the same way he dealt with the Brown shirts who helped him get into office to begin with.

What really should bother everyone is that the British came up with a way to decode the enigma machine, and many thousands died keeping it a secret, and letting the Germans win battles that the Allies could have won. They could have stopped the trains going to Auschwitz.....For the good of the war effort we need to calculate what information to use and to whom we should sacrifice to keep them in the dark.....
