    Default Buying Silver

    Hello all,

I am interested in buying silver as an investment and a hedge against devaluation of the dollar. I would imagine some of you have experience in this matter, so I has hoping for advice/tips on what to buy and or avoid. Are the Silver Eagle coins the best way to buy or should you just by silver bars? Do you have a preferred vendor to purchase from (such as APMEX)? And lastly how hard are they to sale when the time comes you want to cash in on your investment.

If any of you have information that goes beyond what I have asked, that would be great as well.

Thank you all for your time,

    NRG

I forgot about the search function LOL! If you have any thing you want to add then by all means do so, but there is a wealth of knowledge I have found so far.

    Thanks!

I have used Apmex over the years with much happiness. Avoid NWTM if they are still in business.

Like lead it's hopefully something you never need but invaluable if you do.

When I buy, I buy with the thought of only using if needed, hopefully my grandchildren will get a heavy inheritance. I also only buy with cash, I've stopped buying right now because of family issues my, POS BIL has a couple of jewelry stores not far from you in Ohio. I need to find another source. I've bought from eBay as well, never messed with the big dealers. I have coins, bars, a 3 oz skull that's pretty cool and even some casino rounds.

There's a precious metals thread on here somewhere, but it hasn't been active in a while. Good luck!

I have never used Apmex but have read time and time again that they are the gold standard for PM sellers.

I have used Providence Metals several times and have been happy with them. They ship your package with a different name and address than Providence Metals so no one knows what is in the box.

I prefer 1 ounce bars as they are easier to deal with, and I figure it would be a bit harder to counterfeit a 1 ounce bar vs. a larger bar.

I have only used apmex, and I doubt I will use anyone else. They ship fast and deliver on time. Prices are just as competitive as anyone I have found. I have bought alittle gold and some silver. Nice to have a little extra comfort around the house, when you can afford to buy it.

Most of the popular companies sell on ebay. And it is very easy to find the best price when they are all in one spot. Plus free shipping and credit card is the same price as any other payment.

In a SHTF scenario, will silver be recognized as a viable currency, or will provisions/supplies be a better idea. I suppose as long as you can trade silver/gold for the needed supplies you want, then yes, but this would assume that the vendor/seller believes in a modern future where he can exchange for cash.

I have a decent home supply of paper money, and coins because that is the most recognized currency. This will work just fine for a short term SHTF situation, but maybe the Silver/gold is a better idea for long term, or permanent power outage, or EMP scenario.
