    I learned on an orientation compass (Ranger Scout model) back in 1970 in the boy scouts. I've purchased several others since then and have one in every GHB, BOB we have, Plus 2 in the truck. Never had any reason to learn the other type and haven't had problem with what I use. But like Fidel said, check them from time to time and make sure they haven't failed. In particular if you drop one. I'd do that with either type.

    I forgot to add, I was trained to use the M2. Didn't see a lensatic until I went to leadership school.
