Pick Plantago leaves when they are vibrant and green. Chop them coarsely and pack loosely into a clean, very dry jar. Add olive oil, dislodge air bubbles with a knife or chopstick until the jar is filled to the very top. label and cap securely. Let sit out of direct sunlight, on a surface that won't be marred by oozing oil.
Decant after six weeks, pouring off the oil and squeezing out what remains in the plant material. Discard the herb. Grate one tablespoon of beeswax for every ounce of oil. Stirring constantly, heat the oil and beeswax until the wax melts, usually within a minute. Pour the liquid into small, wide-mouthed jars (a good excuse for buying marinated artichoke hearts) and cool.
Use this onitment lavishly for diaper rash, insect bites, all itches, and minor wounds. It heals, stops itching, checks bleeding, and eases pain.

    1. RECIPE # 24

    Elderberry Syrup Recipe

    7 cups elderberry juice
    8 ¾ cups honey
    3 cups 80 proof vodka

(if you're starting with dried berries, to get "juice", put 1 cup of berries in a quart jar and pour 2 cups of boiling water over them. If they soak it up, add a bit more. Stash in the fridge or a cool, dark place for 24-48 hours. Then strain, and squeeze every bit of liquid you can out- you can twist the berries in a muslin towel and get most of it. You'll need three "jars" of the stuff to get enough for 7 cups. )

Warm the elderberry juice to “hot, but not boiling” temp… between 150° and 180°F should be plenty. Stir in the honey and stir until it’s completely dissolved and blended.

Remove from the heat, and stir in the vodka.

Pour into sterile jars or bottles (sterilize them by boiling for 5-10 minutes in boiling water, then let drip dry upside down until filling)

Cap and LABEL. Store in a cool DARK place (or bottle in dark brown glass)

Standard dose for adults would be:

Prophylaxis (prevention) 1 tablespoon (15 mls, or 1/2 ounce) 2x a day. If there is active flu in your office or family, double that, or take more often.

Treatment: 1-2 tablespoons every 3-4 hours

Children under 12: half the adult dose

Toddlers and infants: Talk to your doctor! But, lacking that, 1 tsp at similar intervals to the adult dose should be adequate.

There is NO way to overdose on this! Put it in juice, jello, pour it over ice cream- any way you can get the kids to take it is fine.

    Alternatives:
If you do not want to use any alcohol in the syrup, use
    7 cups elderberry juice
    14 cups honey

Proceed as above, ignoring the reference to the vodka.

If you don’t want to use honey (probably best to NOT use it for babies under 1 year)

    7 cups elderberry juice
    11 ½ cups sugar

Stir until the sugar is dissolved in the hot juice, then bottle.

Cook liquid with sugar and rind of citrus (omit rind if not organic) for 30-60 minutes. Return to crock. Add citrus juice. When liquid has cooled to blood temperature, soften yeast, spread on toast, and float toast in crock. Cover and let work two days. Strain.

    1. MAKE YOUR OWN HERBAL TINCTURES

    WHY MAKE TINCTURES?
    * Tinctures are more powerful and last longer than dried herbs.
    * It is much cheaper than buying ready made herbal products. You can make about a quart of your own tincture for the price of a few ounces of tincture at retail stores.
    * You can control the quality of the product you are making by starting with herbs you collect yourself or purchase through a reputable source. You are also ensured of the purity of the final product.
    * You can make special combination formulas.
    * There is something to be said about getting involved in your own health. Some herbalists say that you benefit by absorbing some of the herb through the skin and from the aroma.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN TINCTURES

    THE ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:

    * Dried or fresh herbs in powdered or cut form.
    * 80 -100 proof vodka or rum (NEVER use rubbing, isopropyl or wood alcohol).
    * Wide-mouthed glass jars with lids (mason jar or equivalent).
    * Unbleached cheesecloth or muslin.
    * Labels and markers.

    STEP BY STEP

You should plan to start your tinctures on the day of the new moon and let them sit at least 2 weeks until the full moon - this adds a natural drawing power.

1- Pour the amount of herb you desire into the glass jar and slowly pour the alcohol until the herbs are entirely covered. Then add an inch or two of additional liquid.
2- Seal the jar tightly so that the liquid cannot leak or evaporate. Put the jar in a dark area or inside a paper bag.
3- Shake the jar every day.
4- When ready to bottle, pour the tincture through a cheesecloth into another jar or dark colored tincture bottle. Squeeze the saturated herbs, extracting the remaining liquid until no more drips appear.
5- Close the storage container with a stopper or cap and label.

    ADDITIONAL TIPS ON TINCTURES

1- 200 grams dried or 300 grams of fresh herbs (chopped) to one liter of liquid is needed.
2- Rum helps hide the taste of bitter herbs.
3- Distilled water, vinegar or glycerol can be used to make nonalcoholic tinctures.
4- Standard dosage is 1 teaspoon, 1-3 times daily, diluted in tea, juice or water.
5- Tinctures can last up to two years when stored in a tightly closed container.
6- A wine press or juicer may be used to extract liquid from the herbs.
7- Several herbs can be combined into a tincture formula.
    8- Experiment and have fun!
    2. Deodorant Powder

    3. thought this recipe would be good for not only babys bottoms but also a great solution for preppers to have wet ones as they need them.....

    Castile Solution

1 tablespoon almond, apricot, or other oil
1 tablespoon Dr Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap
    2 drops tea tree oil
    1 drop lavender oil
    1 cup water

When mixing solutions it works best to start with oil and end with water. The oil will coat your measuring tools so the soap slips right off. Be sure to add the water slowly or you'll end up with a ton of bubbles! Most of the time it's easiest to gently mix the wipe solution in a bottle with a cover, then pour it into the storage container.

There are many different ways to store and apply wipe solutions to your wipes, try a few of the following ideas to find the one that works best for your family. You may discover that one system works great at home and another works great away from home. Here's some ideas to get you started:

Use a spray bottle to spritz baby's bottom or the wipes. (For baby's comfort we prefer spraying the wipes)
Use a bottle with a pull-up spout (like on bottled-water bottles) to dribble solution onto the wipes.
Warm solution and place in an insulated container to provide warm wipes for baby.
Place the solution into a commercial baby wipes container and dip wipes into the solution.
Place cloth wipes in a commercial baby wipes container and pour wipes solution over wipes.
A commercial baby wipes container can be placed in a wipes warmer to provide cozy warm wipes for baby.

Don't store solution or wet wipes for a long time because they can become musty and the wet wipes may even grow mildew - ewww! Check your solution and wet wipes daily, and mix smaller batches of solution frequently instead of large batches less often to avoid mustiness. We mix fresh solution once a week, store it in a bottled-water bottle, and have not had any problems with mustiness.

note: other recipes for wipe call for vinager to inhibit mold.

    1. God's RX

I am sure we have all seen this but it worth repeating.

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We're such slow learners...

God left us great clues as to what foods help what part of our body!
    God's Pharmacy! Amazing!
A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye.. and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All o f the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

buy a wide mouth jar at the store, added one cup baking soda and

I've eliminated bleeding, tender gums using this for a year now. The

germ amounts in my mouth! Probably keeps me from getting colds and
    sore throats, too.

About 20 years ago, My wife and I were both diagnosed with having
periodontal disease --- with deep pockets, over 10. It was suggested
by our dentist that we see a periodontist with the idea of having our
gums cut, plaque was removed, and the gums stitched after that
    procedure.

A friend of ours had that done and was not pleased with the pain,
    suffering and expense.

We then learned about Dr. Nara and his technique. We followed his
recommendations. After following his regime for slightly over a
month, we went back to our dentist for a review of our condition. He
was thoroughly pleased with the results. When we told him we did not
get a treatment from the periodontist but, instead, used Dr. Nara's
method, he was shocked, and pleasingly surprised.
Last year, after having neglected to continue with this wonderful
method of prevention, I was examined once again and informed my gum
pockets were as deep as 16. And, again, I was referred to a
periodontist that had "the latest technology --- scaling my teeth
with a microscope viewing devise. "It may or may not work. And, it is
    not covered by insurance."

I opted for trying Dr. Nara's method again. After two months, I
revisited my dentist. Again, he was impressed with the condition of
    my gums.

The method I use is an irrigator with the cannulae tip
    .
I use a heaping teaspoon of salt, a heaping teaspoon of baking soda
(to neutralize the acids) and over an ounce of hydrogen peroxide
(which helps to remove the plaque).

I follow that with Rockland's SuperOxy Mouthwash, which contains Aloe
Vera (for healing); to which I add about 50% of hydrogen peroxide. It
has a mint flavor. I'm inclined to think I can mix my own,
experimenting with the same ingredients (H2O2, Mint, Aloe Vera and
pure water), suited to my taste.

Here are my ideas for holistic home-made tooth products!

Healing Clay from the Healing Earth

I like to use Clay - Argiletz clay - either as a dry powder with a
damp toothbrush dipped in it. There are different colors with
    slightly different properties.
Clay is so rich in minerals - it is wonderful for demineralization.
It is also highly alkalizing without resorting to using baking soda.
I have read some excellent research about the detrimental systemic
effects of baking soda if ingested and inadvertently some will be
absorbed through oral tissue or swallowed.

White clay is great for general dental use for adults and children
Green clay is slightly more cleansing and toning to the gums
Pink and red clay are soothing
Yellow clay is great for regenerating tissue - it is very high in
natural sulfer which has a strengthening effect on gum tissue.

As a powder it can be used straight or mixed into a paste with water,
with salt water, with proplolis, with colloidal silver or liquid
    calcium/magnesium etc.

It can be rinsed out - or left on for a while and rinsed out - there
is no danger to swallowing it - actually good for you - many people
take up to a tablespoon or more internally for cleansing and as a
    mineral substance that adjusts homeostasis

A formula that I devised is

    LittleTree Toothpowder

    2 tablespoons white clay powder
1-2 teaspoons very fine MSM powder
1 teaspoon (or more to taste) very fine Xylitol powder
lemon or peppermint or fennel essential oils to taste (1-5 drops)

    Dentie: A traditional Japanese/Macrobiotic Remedy

Also great is dentie powder - a mix of charcolated eggplant and
    unrefined sea salt.

Some people find it too strong for everyday use but it is excellent
treatment to use it 1-3 times a week for gum strengthening and deep
    teeth cleaning.

It is great to have on hand because it can stop bleeding - not just
in the mouth - also traditionally used for nose bleeding and in
emergency situations has been taken internally with a bleeding
stomach ulcer or cancer (obviously professional care is also
    required!)

This arresting of bleeding quality obviously makes for a great remedy
for any gum bleeding issues if they are caused by over expansion (yin
    in macrobiotic terms)
In natural food and organic and macrobiotic supply stores and
mail/internet order companies dentie can be bought as an inexpensive
powder, mixed into a paste in a toothpaste tube. It can also be made
    at home.
Dentie is made from the calix of eggplants. The calix is the top
part, by which the eggplant is attached to its stem.

The original way of preparing it is:
for a long period (weeks, months or even years!) the calixes of the
eggplants were stored under pressure (A heavy weight) with 20 percent
salt. Then this mixture was dried and carbonized.

The modern way to prepare it is quicker! The top parts of the
eggplants are roasted slowly for a long time, until they pulverize.
To this 30-50% roasted unrefined sea salt is added.

By subjecting this very yin (expansive) plant to the influences of
heat, time, salt and originally also to pressure - all very yang
factors), the strong yin substance of the eggplant is neutralized
completely and only the deep yang essence of the plants remains! True
    alchemy.

Dentie has been shown to be effective for dealing with problems fo
the teeth and gums especially if these problems have a yin cause.

    For example:
Toothache - if caused by yin - over consumption of sugar, alcohol,
tropical fruit etc. - rub dentie into the gum around the painful
    tooth for 5 minutes
pyorrhea - a purulent gum dis-ease caused by yin factors, especially
sugar rich foods. Brush teeth and gums carefully. Then rinse mouth
and rub dentie on the outside of gums. Allow the dentie to soak into
the gums as long as possible. It isn't harmful to swallow but avoid
swallowing to much to avoid craving sweets and lots of liquid. It is
    very salty!

I avoid anything made with glycerine and prefer to use things as a
powder or paste made with water just before use. I have read research
that the presence of glycerine severely to completely inhibits
remineralisation - which is vital. Apparently it takes up to 12 or
more vigorous rinses to remove the glycerine after brushing teeth
with toothpaste or any formula that contains glycerine. If it is not
removed, then the remineralisation which occurs through the minerals
that are dissolved in saliva's interaction with the tooth surface, is
    compromised.

I also like to use just a drop of pure organic peppermint oil
    especially after the sonicare use.

With my Sonicare or Ionic toothbrush I often use just water and find
it clears plaque, tartar and gives a fresh mouth feel!

My submission is my personal variation on a recipe from the book, An
    A-Z Aromatherapy by Patricia Davis.

The original recipe is this for mouthwash:
    250 mls cheap brandy
    30 drops Peppermint essential oil
    20 drops Thyme eo
    10 drops Myrrh eo
    10 drops Fennel eo

I really didn't want the alcohol wash, so I mix the essential oils
    with
about 3/4 cup of baking soda. I run it through a mesh sifter or
strainer a couple of times to mix it well and put it in a little
plastic container with a lid. I just dip my wet toothbrush in this
to brush my teeth with. It gives the soda a better taste and is very
    good for the gums.

That is the basics. You can substitue Tea Tree oil for the Thyme and
this is very anti-septic. You can also substitute Mandarin for
Fennel if you prefer that taste (Fennel tastes like black licorice
for those who don't know). Myrrh is essential to this mixture for
its healing and tonic properties.I made this for my mom who has
yellowed teeth and receding gums from smoking cigarettes. She wet
her toothbrush with Hydrogen Peroxide and then dipped
it in the powder. Within a week we noticed a difference, within two
weeks her teeth were whiter and her gums were pinker with no brown
spots. She certainly has a prettier smile now!

I hope this can help some people out there like it helped us!

    Tooth Powder

    3 parts baking soda
    1 part sea salt
    3 parts calcium-magnesium-vit c powder*
3 parts finely ground prickly ash bark
    1 part echinacea powder
    1/2 part goldenseal powder
Optional: peppermint essential oil to taste

Combine the ingredients and shake well. Use about 1/4 tsp on a wet
    toothbrush.

    *I use Wachter's Cal-Mag-Vit C Powder which adds a nice flavor. All
ingredients are available at a health food store.
    *******************************
    Personal note:
Due to extenuating circumstances I hadn't used my toothpowder for
about 9 months and was using a powder from the health food store. I
had a few teeth "pinging" occassionally and was unable to chew on one
side due to sensivity. This motivated me to make a batch. After two
days all was well and the sensivity was gone. I never have a problem
with bleeding gums or plaque. Recently had a check up with a new
dentist. He said my gums were in great shape and asked what I used. I
shared the formula to which he replied, "That's why! Keep up the good
    work."

    Homemade Toothpaste, Mouthwash
Most commercial brands of toothpaste use chemicals and additives such
as fluoride, saccharin and sodium lauryl sulfate. These ingredients
may be toxic in large doses. Given below are recipes for toothpastes
and mouthwash that you can make at home. In the homemade toothpaste,
you can add antiseptic, anti-inflammatory essential oils, such as tea
tree or peppermint, along with mild abrasives like salt, clay and
