Sorry. I didn't even see your message until just now. We had company over the weekend and now scrambling to get so much outdoor work done before the snow flies, taking advantage of all the sunny days I can.
  3. Hi Rick,

I also have a UHF repeater that is for sale on ebay right now. I have been involved in emergency services for 36 years. I got my EMT in 1975, I retired once already in 1997 from apublic safety department as a Fire Dept Lt, and police depr Sgt., I have also worked Search and Rescue, and been a Professional Remval Specialist (0Body Snatcher ) for two County Medical Examiners offices. And I started back into it again and have been where I am now for 10 years. I except calls 24/7 and nobody has to be dead, However during the day I will not be concious and wont remember the call. Call me regarding Comms and mention my repeater and you might find the information on it interesting. It is on a commerciall Freq and a police department radio guy can build these on VHF also to extend your range.

And the time difference just hit me. You're in FL? Its a little after 8pm here. I could have called after all.
But yeah, I hear ya re: working midnights. If the phone rang while I was asleep, somebody better be dead! :)

    Hi, Cliff.
Thanks for the note. Looks like we have a lot in common except location. I'm a retired patrol sergeant myself. Laurel, MD. Moved to MT 10 yrs ago and lovin' every minute of it.

I just put the V8000 on the air about an hour ago. It turned out I had enough RG8X with the pre-fabbed connectors to reach all the way from the antenna to the radio. So I ended up not using a wall plate after all. I had heard that about the LM400 and N connectors, too, but this went together easy enough and I did a test with a buddy in town on our business channel. He was 18 miles away (in the mountains) and we copied each other just fine. I did the mod to extend the tx range on the Icom and it worked fine. Now I'll just keep studying and maybe go for the tech ticket. There's just no one arond here to talk to on 2 meters....
    Thanks again.
