    USGS has a similar free topo map program, but they are much more feature rich

    The USGS maps download into a .pdf with different layers you can turn on and off, they even have google earth imaginary layers that can be turned on

    The link I provided are USGS maps as well but what NatGeo has done is preformat them to 8.5x11. Zoom in on the area of interest, click on the icon, and the PDF opens. From there you can save/print the 5-pg PDF. Not as feature rich as what you can get directly from USGS for sure, but they are good enough for most needs.
