    Default World Gone Silent Kit

Anyone have an opinion on this set up, pros cons, etc?

I'm now working about 25 miles from home and want a non-cellular way of being able to communicate with my wife (at home).

    Thanks,

    Way expensive.

Even with quality radios you can build that capability for less than half. And do you even have a place to put the repeater?

    Not worth it really.
any repeater is going to have to be at some height between you and wherever.
Where were you planning on putting a repeater?

That is more for a group out exploring and having a central repeater to cover a larger area.

    JMHO.

Cheaper than a bug out bike.

or buy the individual parts and save half the cost

Just seems to me that going with a repeater your going to have a deployment and maintenance problem.

Also, 7AH battery seems a little under powered for your 25 mile walk, assuming ideal repeater placement.

That price, ouch... Agree with everyone else. 25 miles with AM CB (from mobile to base anyway) should be completely do-able, SSB or amplifiers even easier. Have a place for the repeater, and would it need to already be up/operational 24X7 in case it was needed? I put together a cross band repeater solution in a 5-gallon bucket with a Puxing UV-9R (HT) radio and lawn-tractor battery pretty cheap that is largely weather proof, but it's more for extending HT range out a couple miles around a campsite.
Everything marked, everything 'membered. You wait, you'll see.
