Tom that has always been my mindset. No tv in the morning or dinner and only after all chores and homework was complete. While we ate dinner if their phones went off they knew they weren't allowed to touch them. My kids are grown and they still respect that.
Parents need to guide and provide do's and don'ts. Children need structure and routine. I also couldn't agree more with having the kids clean and do laundry. I told my wife if we do t we are setting them up to fail. My son mowed the lawn and my daughters picked up land mines from the dogs. They got paid to do it as an incentive. They all cleaned their rooms and kept their bathroom clean. Turning off lights was a whole different issue lol
Overall they have grown to be responsible adults I am very proud of.
