Thank you Tdale - I just showed the wife the price cut on the 140w panels thinking I might be able to talk her into one. She said "get two".

These will be going in to replace the 3 - 15w Harbor Freight panels we have up on the roof right now. Those will get retired as backups. So this will upgrade our solar power collection capacity from 45 watts to 280 watts.

Maybe next spring with the tax refund we'll spring for a couple more batteries and an upgraded charge controller.

    Appreciate the head's up!

Awesome, at 280 watts you get to the point where you can run a fridge or freezer and still charge a few things, run some fans, etc. You can also support a larger battery bank because you can generate enough current to properly charge the cells. with 45 watts you are rather limited on the amp hour capacity of your battery bank because 45 watts at 12 volts is just under 4 amps, and you really want to have enough current to charge them up. Batteries are much more expensive relative to solar now, so you want to minimize cost without going so low you discharge the batteries too deeply.

too bad i had to pass on this. i wanted some of the 80 watters to match the one i have now.

wife was actually onboard with purchasing at least two.

got laid off wednesday afternoon and circumstances forced us into max cash conservation and i could not justify the purchase.

    dang!
