today, I cut, split and stacked a 1/4 cord of wood (would have done more if not for the mosquitoes). My pile now stands at about 15 cords. Over the next month I hope to stack up to 21 cords. Of which I hoping on selling 20. As a measure of how bad things are getting around here. Firewood was selling for $185/cord this time last year. With so many people out of work, the prices have fallen to $125/cord. At $125/cord, prices have fallen to what they were 10 years ago. Most of these guys go out and cut trees not belonging to them, which hurts the grower, who has invested in their trees for decades. Another indicator that people don't care, they'll break the law, steal from a neighbor, anything to put food on the table.

Yesterday I connected into the gravity fed water line to run a line to a portion of the orchard for flood irrigation and Tee'd off for a line to the chicken and rabbit coops. I hope to install automatic waters in both sheds. In doing this line which should be on all the time, I connected another line Tee'd in to supply water to an outdoor stainless steel sink I got at a garage sale for $5. The sink needs legs which I'll fabricate next weekend.

Yesterday, I also installed springs on the door closers for each cage in the rabbit barn. Cleaned each of the buildings and placed two new galvanized garbage cans for animal feed storage.

In a couple more weeks, the seed heads to the grasses in my fields, will be dried enough to start harvesting. This will be part of the rations for the birds during the winter months. I hope to fill another couple galvanized garbage cans with seed. But before I do that, I'll cut a vent into each and install a small muffin fan which blows over a small hot water radiator fins from a DYI solar hot water collector and photovoltaic panel (which provides daytime power to the fan and a small water pump).

The neighbors here have got it together. 3 cows, 9 sheep, a couple goats, and we all hunt water fowl on the lake in season. Stay safe...

Took a class for $200 and got about $7,000 worth of info out of it. So much so I went to the next one 3 hours away from my house. www.combatstudiesgroup.blogspot.com The best thing I added to my preps last month and this month was knowledge through experience. You know all that gear we bought because we thought it was what we needed? Yeah not so much... I spent 8 years in the military and all I got was a couple stupid shirts apparently. Go take a class and add to your vault of knowledge. Skill trump gear everyday of the week! Go take a class, any class you can learn from!

That is a great post, Dutch. If more folks would take half the resources they expend on "things" and invest them in knowledge and skills development they would be far better off.
