I myself don't think anything major (by our hand anyway) will happen before the election. The 2 main political parties have to much at stake with the Presidency up for grabs.

Granted closer to election some things might happen to help sway the election one way or another. Like if Osama gets caught right after the democratic hopeful makes Pakistan one of his/her goals it wouldn't surprise me.
