This is dear to my heart and is part of my sig line. AT beslan where Islamic Terrorists from Chechnya and the middle east and other islamic locations took a school and approximately 1000+/- a couple hundred students, parents, smaller children, and teachers hostage. When things finally fell apart(thru no fault of the CT units on scene but fault of the Russian Government) an emergency assault was conducted by the men of the Alpha and Vymprl Counter Terror Units,in which they placed their bodies between terr machine guns , standing tall knowing they would die, and children and hostages who fleeing the terrs, where at least one of the dead covered an explosives armed terr with his body muffling the explosions, I ask you remember their sacrifices. In another time they they were or wood have been my enemy but they died as my comrades protecting children from evil.

Soon I fear we will face the same situation in coordinated multiple location attack so pray for our guys also as my profession with the exception of extremely small numbers of officers are not ready.

For those who want to know more the book Terror at Beslan by John Gidduck is an great resource.

While not really an American event I hope this still fits here. These guys were magnificent and saved many lives in what many people I know believe was a practice run for an eventual operation here.

You are certainly right, under certain circumstances they would be our enemies. However, I try always to remember that LEO and soldiers in every country, for the most part like here, are serving their country to the best of their ability with the same loyalty that we expect of our troops. While our countries may disagree, many at the low levels (like us) are not really that different. Sure, there are extremists and outlaws. But by and large, I try not to hate the troops of a country at odds with us, doesn't mean I wouldn't help to defend against them should it be necessary, just that I harbor no personal hate for them and would treat them with the respect due any soldier on the battlefield. Their sacrifices for the good of others is commendable, no matter where they hang their hats at night.

I heard about this... I only scratched the surface but I was horrified.
