I don't know if anybody has tried this, but I picked up a Nite Eyes LED bulb for a Mini Maglite last week at Walmart. I also picked up some lithium AA batteries for it. We have several of these around the house just for emergencies, in fact, there is a light in almost every room. Anyway, they don't see much use, so I figured the LED combined with the lithium batteries would give better results after sitting awhile. I haven't had it long enough to check that out yet, but when I installed the LED bulb, it was very close to being as bright as the original bulb, my wife said it may be a bit brighter. And since those Mini Mag bulbs break so easily, the LED will be much more durable, making it a useable light under rough conditions now. Just thought I'd pass this on.

Yeah...I've converted several Mini-Mags...and one of my 3 "D" cell ones too...
The brightness of the "D" cell is fine...but it doesn't have the "reach" that the normal bulb has...so I left the other two normal.

Agreed Dirtpirate, I converted one of my mini-mags over. Works fine at work and when the power goes down. The only downfall as you mentioned was the reduction in light output. They just don't put it out.

I have converted 2 of mine and added the push button switch. They work fine, but have less out put as the other 2 have said, but from what i understand the batteries last alot longer and the bulb doesnt brake as easy when dropped.

I carry a MiniMag w/ the NiteIze kit on my belt - in a NiteIze pouch, actually. I've also converted my larger D-cell light, but iirc I used the actual MagLite LED replacement on it. IMO, an LED flashlight is an "up-close" light to start with. If I want to light up the chicken yard 80 yards away from the front door, I'll use the 2.5 million CP spotlight to take a look. Of course, once I get some NVG, I'll use that instead. I figure using LED flashlights and rechargeable batteries make for the best disaster-light combo. I have a AA/AAA charger that handles 4 batt's and plugs into a 12vdc recepticle - great for solar systems or vehicles/gennys.

Thx for info. :)
Does this conversion drain the batteries faster?
Thx in advance (just curious :) )

Nope I have had the same batteries in mine since January and they are still going strong.

I knew that while LEDs can be quite bright, they don't seem to "throw" light nearly as far as a good regular-type bulb. I'm gonna leave most of my big lights alone, but the Minimags around the house are for general use close in, so it won't matter. These are for geting around the house when the power's out or looking behind the washing machine for something that fell back there kind of things. I got some Surefires for blinding people halfway down the block.

I want a surefire with the combat bezels but I can not seem to justify the cost of it to my Banker...I mean my Girlfriend lol! :argue:

Mine don't have combat bezels, those are big bucks. I have a 6P I carry daily, and a 9P mounted on my CX4 carbine.
I'm converting one of my mini-mags and a 3D I have to LED this week.

Well I havent tried the mini-mag. But I do know for a fact if you get the nite eyes led bulb in a two d-cell mag lite it will run exactly eight and a half days with fresh batteries......
The OE LED Mini Mag is as bright as the bulb but the light is a little bluer. You can focus the beam, an ability you loose with the NiteIze conversion module.
Mini Mag @$10+ NiteIze Module@ $9=$19
OE LED Mini Mag is $21 and well worth the extra couple bucks.
The 3 AA LED Mini Mag @ $28 is brighter yet and easy on batteries.

Yeah now that Mag-lite is make them from the factory with adjustable LED's that are way brighter is the way to go.

I have had both the $7 and the $18 conversion for my mini maglite, and the $17 is much better for all-around, but the $7 has 3 bulbs, and is better for indoors due to the wider beam pattern, but if you go outdoors, its almost usless past 35ft. The $18 one is good out to about 100ft (no joke), plus it has many diffrent settings on the IQ switch. Just my .02c

the mini 3 aa is almost too bright for a work light.
