AO for those of you who didn't know (I just rymned lol) means Area of Operations ie the land around you.

It would depend during the green season I use woodland bdus. My area also has a large number of reclamed mining operations known as stripjobs. In these areas the new ACU digital pattern works good. During fall and winter I use a combination of camo. It mainly depends on the weather. If it is snowing I use the ACU. Good weather, woodland. I am waiting or at least trying to buy a set of muticam's. They look really good in almost every season and terrain here in EKY. Just have some gear I want before i go and buy some more bdus.

Just don't vote explain why and what you use. Let use this as a learners tool for those that are looking for a pattern to use. I'm sorry lol just hipper weather and work has keep me from going onto the Big Mountain as we call it see photo this is my AO.

I believe that muticam from what I have seen of them and talk to ppl about is going to be the way to go. They work good to great in a variety of terrains. Check them out. Here is the website. http://www.multicampattern.com/

But get this these are the runner up to the ACU's and now i have seen military units wearing them on future weapons and on the net. So I believe they are switching to those over the ACU. More tax money at waste. It should have been the top chice to begin with. Sorry I had to vent. lol :shooting:

Well I wear mostly OD because it blends well. The only other pattern I wear is Brit DPM. It works very well in this area. So I normally wear a Brit DPM top and OD Bottoms.

If the weather is nasty when I'm hunting, I wear rain gear bibs and coat with a realtree pine/evergreen scheme I got from Cabellas. It is speacial fabric that does not "swish" when you walk or make noise when you pass tree branches.

In the winter I use this when I"m feeling stealthy.

I put hunting camo for a number of reasons.

You have several companies (mossy oak and real tree being the biggest) that offer multiple patterns, colors, and even weather and scent proofing.

I know real tree offers various goretex items as well as their scent blocker lines which may help you to elude tracking dogs for at least some time...hey if it hides you from deer...it must help out with dogs too right?

In my AO (we're moving in this weekend) I'd have to say realtree hardwoods green. Most of what we have is scruboak/wateroak with a few pines and maples.
My 2nd choice being in FL and seeing as when SHTF fan I'd like to have a nearby watersource I'd go with a wetlands pattern. Not only would this help me to remain less visible to humans but if waterfowl are present it would help in the hunting/killing/eating aspect as well.

I like Realtree but also have OD and Woodland BDU as supplemental... stuff.

Ghillie suits are also fun toys for super-stealth.

I use hunting patterns well when scouting for game and the weekend 4-wheeler rides. They have there uses but the only draw back that I see is there are area specific. If bugging out or moving to a new location it may not work in all areas on your route. In the span of 4 miles of my bug out location there are some many different patterns of vegetation that you could find someplace for every type of hunting pattern. Call me simple I like a do it all as good as u can pattern.

I would like to get my hands on some British DPM you got any suggestions chicom? :soldier:

You need to add more choices to the list. In my AO, it's FUBU, Avirex, Southpole, the ever popular G-Unit, and my personal favorite, Pornstar. I guess that's an indoor pattern. You've also got to have bright red shoes with lights on them. Oh, yeah, don't tie them.

 That is funny. But you know you are right. If you live in an urban or other populated areas you will stand out like a sore thumb in camo. Esp during bugout.

Jeans and a t-shirt for summer ... throw a jacket over it in the winter! I'd look silly going around town in woodland patterns if TSHTF. Even outside town that would tag me as someone who is prepared and make me a target to be followed to my supplies.
My first choice is to survive in town because I'm no Yul Gibbons and I don't think I could digest tree bark and Grape Nuts!

Im with you. Im one of the biggest advocates of bugging out as a last resort. I think i would have to have something happen where I knew if I didnt leave I was dead (IE MASSIVE hurricane, problems with the local nuclear plant, ect).

I live in Ky where it is green most of the year. Regular woodland works good, but I prefer the Marine digi's. It seems like they break up shapes much better. JMHO

You could add Gangbanger clothes, as they are not quite the same as everyday folks wear. :) Seroiusly, I did vote street clothes for my AO. But I hope to be changing that soon.

I put street clothes as well, and I'm stuck with that until I get out of college. I have a set of woodlands, but with campus in the middle of town (back at FSU) or 26 miles east towards the beach here, keeping a set of bdu's with me to wear just in case, would make me stick out and draw all kinds of unwanted attention.

Though to that end, I do need to add some more outdoor friendly clothes to my trunk.

ZombieHunter_EKY
06-03-2007, 11:24 AM
Yeah at all times I keep a 3 day pack, my SAS Assault Vest, and a change of BDU's and boots in my trunk or what ever car I am in. People at my job (I weld for a living again) still haven't figured out why I carry a pack on the service truck.

I don't use anyone pattern, that's why I choose hunting. I wear mossyoak, advantage timber, realtree, realtree hardwoods and woodland. I pick up different patterns when they go on sell. One time it might be realtree, the next time mossyoak. If I had to use it for shtf, it would be after I got to the hideout.

Well I have had my MultiCam for over a month now. What can i say but WOW! I love the stuff. Summer, Fall, Winter. It works. Prices are finally starting to come down and more company's are making gear in the pattern. BDU.com BTW has the best deals to be found on BDU's. Sorry I don't have any pics but the camera is SNAFU'ed on me and I have neither the time or money to fix it. Will give a more detailed run down and comparison to other types of camo asap. Planing a camping trip pretty soon as long as my friends don't crap ot at the last moment. Just because it is cold does not mean you can't camp. All that means is more firewood.

I'll post what works well in the areas i've trained in.

South Louisiana= Vietnam Tigerstripe owns all. Even more if you can find the "new" tiger stripe that has the black omitted.
Eastern Kentucky = MARPAT or plain ol woodlands
South Arkansas = MARPAT would probably work best

That russian camo looks NICE. I'm gonna have to order some and do some testing.

my area is either sage and desert to the south or woodland to the north the old school desert storm camo works really well when i'm in the "desert" and the woodland works when i'm in the woods. if its snowy i have some handmade white pants and poncho with a little black and brown splotches and they work most everywhere. plus if i need to blend in better i can always add branches and leaves from the area i'm in.

Do you by any chance know what the pattern's name is. I wouldn't mind to have some of that for use on the abandoned strip mining sites. I use my ACU's in that type of environment.

I am surrounded by old coal strip mines some with abandoned towns from the 1800s deep in the woods around them so my woodland works well. Lucky around hear they are planting white birch on them and there is a forest again not just a big hole in the ground. There are a few underground mines left to. Some of the abandoned ones have piles of coal just sitting there waiting for SHTF!

We have sage, pines, wheat, alfalfa and river bottoms in a 15 mile radius. With woodland camo i have had birds land on my shoulder. IMO it is more about being still and moving slowly than the colors as long as we are not talking hunter orange or black on snow.

In my Ao regular street clothes is what you would wear. We live out in the country but it is very quickly becoming another suburb so-to-say of Nashville. Our area has been growing extremely fast with all of the huge department stores and groceries as well as other fast food places. There is not that much privacy anymore. Which sucks bigtime. Plus there is alot of houses nearby.
