Coming in over CNN now, he is suspending his campeign to travel to Washington DC to attempt to help handle the 700 Billion $ bailout... I think this is a big indicator the how real and severe the economic crisis is...

I agree! Even if they pass it, it will just prolong the misery.

Well, I guess it's an important thing to do at this time, but I agree that there isn't a decent thing to do at this point other than let the chips fall where they may.

I wonder..... McCain is asking for the debate to be postponed, is he doing this to avoid Biden's announcement that is rumored to happen after the debates?

Which announcement would that be? I'm not sure exactly how to read into this. This is a extremely risky move by McCain.

I think the single smartest thing Obama could do right now is to wait a week or even two, then have Biden step aside due to "personal" or "health" reasons and have Hitlery step in. It would be virtually guaranteed at that point to get Obama elected... the reason I say maybe wait two weeks or so, is so the momentum could be 'rode' up till the day of the election.

Would you want to be the only person between Hillary and the big chair? The man would have to be suicidal.

Hell, she'd kill him for a Klondike bar!

See I still don't think that she would accept VP if offered she wants to try and run again in 2012 and if she gets VP and Obama screws up or does not get in her chances of winning the next election are shot.

I think that if offered should would turn him down. She does not want VP she wants to be president so she might be looking to 2012 to do it.

This economic bailout has me worried for many different reasons but I agree with yugoshooter, it would just prolong the misery - if not make it worse. I liken the "bailout package" to wound dressings on a severly bleeding wound. On a badly bleeding wound you put a dressing on it, when its blood soaked you add another on top, never take the first off( could tear loose clots that have started forming). The first bandage was Fanny Mae and Bernie Mac takeover by the gov, next the Bank of America buyout of( cant remember) , the gov also helped AIG i think ( I appologize on the sketchyness of facts, someone will need to correct me on this). Now the super absorbent dressing in the form of a 700 Billion bail out. I guess the theory is if you put a thick enough bandage on it will it will take a lot longer for signs of bleeding of the economy to show, boosting consumer confidence and stock prices( yet the economy is still bleeding to death) Does this make any sense to anybody or am I as crazy as my friends, family and psycologist say I am? Sorry for the length but what do you think?

I really don't know what to make of all this. On a personal level I don't know how it will affect me or if it will affect me. I don't think I need to worry excessively about it.
Now on a macro level the story seems to be different. I don't have much compassion for these business that are failing because of shady business practices. I don't have compassion for those that bought houses they knew they could not afford. I especially don't have compassion for those that bought multiple houses at inflated prices as investments. You gamble you win some and loose some.

I think the one that has gotten the raw deal is the poor slob that was trying to make a better life for himself and his family ... the guy these programs were meant to help ... but the programs were abused by many looking to make a quick buck. This guy should be helped not the one that went out and bought three or four houses whit interest only loans. Primary residence assistance only.

Then this $700B "Rescue" ??? It is being made to sound like a long term government investment. The plan, the way I understand it, is to buy out these loans for 5¢ or 10¢ on the dollar, hold them for a number of years and sell them off for say 40¢ on the dollar. It makes scene and help keep Joe Schmoe in his home. But then again ... when was the last time the govermnent made a wise investmatn that actually made money?
I don't see the government doing anything that will be the right thing to do. Maybe I have become too cynical but I beleive anything they do will be corrupted down the road by our congress.
