One of the recommendations (at least in Florida) has been to fill the tubs and sinks with water prior to a Hurricane. I just found this on the web. Seems like a cool way to store water that is immediately useable and not worry about the ring around the tub.

Granted, not good for bugging out, but it is an alternative and alternatives is what survival is all about. Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.

Water beds are a good storage of non drinking water. You could probably use it to cook and clean but not drink, of course your water is going to smell like plastic but most water beds hold a couple of hundred gallons. :freedom:

I bought a 60 gal. plastic bladder from http://www.bayteccontainers.com(it's on sale now BTW) It's very thin, has two ports one to let air in the bladder and the other lets out water via a quick stop valve.

My plan is to put it up in the ceiling( I know, no worries) and let the street pressure fill it when I need it. also have 2-55 gal food grade drums that will keep the bladder full with the help of a 12 volt pump. Honestly, I don't trust it to be full without me being there. The bladder will gravity feed a sink for day to day needs.

As a back up I'll put a 6 gal water can(the green ones from Wally World or was it Kmart?) above the sink and use it in the same fashion. Not a bad idea to keep one for the bath tub. Who hasn't heard the horror stories of someones water bed springing a leak! The only draw back might be getting the water out of the bath tub bladder, being the lowest point in the room already. Maybe have a length of hose pre-cut to a spot in your house that is lower in height and siphon as needed and add a shut-off valve.

Minnesota's got 10,000+ lakes, but the challenge is filtration. I keep 3 different kinds in each BoB, with collapsible containers.

We just bought one of those vinyl pools from wal-mart. It's 12' wide by 3' deep. Comes with pump, filter etc. Bought it for the kids etc as it was only $100 and sets up in 10 minutes or so. BUT it holds about 1800 gallons of water. Work REAL well for cooking, cleaning, bathing etc in bad times. Plus it's portable.
