Now lets twist the Neighbors In Trouble scenario.
The friendly tribe started the fight . They let their teenage sons steal cows from tribe in next valley .

On their own. They crossed the line by themselves, they can resolve the problem by themselves.

Ditto. If they neighbors were the tresspassers, no need for involvement on my end.

Let the 2 tribes fight it out...then pick the spoils once they're done.

I'd try to convince my neighbor that he has made a bad decision that might result in retaliation by the offended tribe, and that he should open lines of communication with them and see if a bloodless solution could be worked out. I would contact the offended tribe and let them know I am not involved, but should they consider me a target because of my proximity to my neighbor, then I will be ready to fight alongside my neighbor in the event of an attack. In either case I will be ready for an attack by hardening my position, and preparing and setting booby traps, foo gas, mines, punji sticks, and other manner of surprise welcoming devices. I will be let my neighbor know that I expect recompense for getting me involved in his poor decision! The bad thing about all this is that I actually have a neighbor with teenage sons who are constantly into something.
