It was unused until you brought it up ;) However, it looks like an area you can use to narrow things to people of similar interests.

Ok, I have setup a test public social group for everybody to test. Play with it, decide what you want to do with it. You can also create private groups. Creating a group is in your profile (UserCP) and the list of public groups are in the social groups menus under the quick links main menu. You need to be invited to get into a private group.

Have fun with them.

Social groups are going to get a big change in the next release of the forum software. Each social group is going to be like its own forum, with threads that members can subscribe to.
