U.S. citizen was among Georgian commandos - Russian Military

A U.S. passport was found in a building in South Ossetia occupied by Georgian troops, a Russian military spokesperson revealed on Thursday. After Russian peacekeepers cleared the heavily defended building, a passport belonging to a Texan named Michael Lee White was discovered inside.

Deputy Chief of Russia's General Staff Anatoly Nagovitsyn showed photocopies of the passport to media in a press briefing on Thursday.

“There is a building in Zemonekozi - a settlement to the south of Tskhinval that was fiercely defended by a Georgian special operations squad. Upon clearing the building, Russian peacekeepers recovered, among other documents, an American passport in the name of Michael Lee White of Texas," said Nagovitsyn.

Neither the owner of the passport nor his remains were found at the scene, despite a thorough search.

"I do not know why he was there, but it is a fact that he was in the building, among Georgian special forces troops,” Nagovitsyn said.

The briefing was delivered on the same day Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told CNN, "We have serious reasons to believe that American citizens were right at the heart of the military action". Putin said the conflict in South Ossetian may have been planned to benefit one of the U.S. presidential candidates.

I am going to make it easy on you. Special and black ops do not carry any type of ID. Could be a merc, but also could be intox from the russians.

Americans fought on both sides during the Serbo Croatian war. Nothing new.

Black ops? Nah. Those boys don't go around with their wallet in their pants.

Just echoing what has already been said. No BO guys are going to carry ID and if it were a civilian, he bailed long before the fight started. Sounds a lot like a plant to me.

There were some pics of the fighting going on in Georgia that came out online shortly after the conflict began, it was mostly in russian ( some forum link cant remem ) it showed pictures of a duece n half, 5ton, and some humvees ( the newest uparmored by the way ) that were captured by the russians. Also in the there was one pic of a black soldier wearing marine marpat bdu's ( green marine digitals marpats the name right ) and a molle style vest, black boots no headgear dead laying next to a building. It has been said somewhere that there are not to many black people in that part of the world. I know we have Army " advisors " over there helping train the Georgian army but am not sure if we have Marines doin the same thing. I cant remember the forum and not good at cutting a pasting pics from somewhere else on the web. But im sure some on here know what im talking about.

I heard about it Al, just haven't seen it myself. In re: to a passport though, wouldn't an advisor's military ID be sufficient? I know when I went to Korea I didn't have a passport, but that was some time ago now.

Im not sure about the ID thing, I have a guy right now PCSing to Germany and they are making him and his family get passports. I will ask around tomorrow, cause everytime I been out of the country on a mission like that our MIL IDs ( like in NATO missions you would recieve another ID when you got in that country to go with your MIL ID ) were all we needed but hey its a new Army and new all other services these days, danm liberals changing the rules for everyone.

Hey did you guys hear on Art Bell the other night. That guys mom called in and said that Maida in Austin, TX told George her son's missing passport that was found in Georgia by Russian defense officials. The passport, belonging to Texas resident Michael Lee White, is being used by Vladimir Putin to implicate the United States in the Georgia conflict (see New York Times). According to Maida, her son's passport was stolen in Kazakhstan in 2005. He was traveling with a new passport and has gone missing in China, she said. Maida believes her son may be under arrest and fears he may be forced to confess to something he did not do.
