Physical training of survivors should mimic the PT of our military. As survivors we don't need the sport specific training of a shot putter, discus thrower, pole vaulter, etc. but we need the physical edge when it comes to, walking long distances, running for speed and distance, broad jump and jumping high, the ability to climb rope, trees, and cliffs, the ability to travel long distances on foot carrying a heavy load, the ability to swim in a rivers current and the oceans surf, and the physical strength and stamina to execute martial arts in a close combat situation. I believe that crosstraining offers an excellent method of working our bodies in a way that will enable us to effectively build ourselves up to increase our odds of survival in a SHTF scenario. I agree. In fact, my fitness goals (long term) were derived for the Marine Corps Minimum PT standards. I figure that if that is an acceptable level of fitness for a Marine...it should do me well... ;)

I know the Marines do three tests - 3 mile run, pushups & pullups. Anybody know the time and amount requirements for Uncle Sams Misguided Children?

I have a bunch of stuff that I printed out a couple years back...Marine, SEAL and Ranger PT info...when I find the printouts...I'll post up some of the requirements.

I have a BowFlex that I bought cheap off of CraigsList. I work hard outdoors all day and the Bowflex has really helped me build muscular endurance. My goal is to look like I'm made of braided steel cable with the exception of a 5 pound fat reserve for when SHTF.

Bowflex is a good option for those with limited dollars or space to apply to fitness equipment.

Hey Slingshot,
Nice to see another CrossFitter on here. I just posted about it in another part of the forum before reading your post. It amazes me how many people get caught up in the minutia (gear and guns) and forget about the single best thing we can do to ensure that we can last in a survival scenario and that is preparing our bodies. Whether it's carrying around a heavy BOB, or having to hunt/farm/live off the land, being very fit will help in any endeavor. And of course, a CrossFit style program is the very best way to get that level of fitness.
