What I gather is that we have 1,000 marines over in Georgia who were there already for training and we were sending an envoy over to help with talks.

Sounds more like what I am hearing now....
Marines on the ground, envoy enroute, and Georgia pulling more troops....

Here we go
is this the final push that is needed to get the ball over the hill and get us into a major conflict?
could this be how it starts?(the end) maybe
but most likely things should calm down in a few days (I hope) and this will just be another close call
but it is still something to keep a eye on

The Mrs. is telling me the Georgians started it. Their Prez is nutz in a big way. The Ossetian region is a lot like what used to be Yugoslavia. Lots of ethnicities under intense pressure from their larger and more aggressive neighbors.
One thing to consider when you look at NATO expansion into the region.
Why?
Could it be that Georgia is the only land mass between the ports in the Black Sea and the Azerbaijzhani oil fields that the Euros are so very fond of?
There is certainly no other practical reason for NATO to have nay interest in the region. "Containing Iran" is a load of manure. Controlling oil fields is a completely different matter.

This should cause the alert scale to go red. The Georgians are requesting millitary assitance from us.
