As noted in another thread...I have purchased a couple of books over the past couple years to get into HAM radio.

I believe the last, most up to date copy I have is copywrite 2004...

My Q is this;

How much info is different? I understand that the question pool might have changed....but how much of the actual info is likely different?
Or does the book "teach to the test"? And that's why you need the newest edition?

This is the most recent one I have...

I know we have a classifieds section...but if you're reading this...you are my likely in my target group...
So...does anyone have a newer Ham Radio License manual from ARRL that they no longer need?

Like this one...

I haven't seen 2 generations of books to compare, so I can't answer that part of the question.

I didn't use a book for Tech, but I did get the book for General. If you can pass the Tech w/o getting a book, I'll loan you the General book to study with. I would like it back as it is good reference material.

Is the old book helping at all? Are you seeing much difference in what the book asks vs. what you are seeing on the practice test? The theory, concepts and ideas should be pretty similar - enough so that you could use an older book to pass.

I thought the books were good for 7 years or something like that. But I know General changed July 2007 when they dropped the code requirements.
Barnes and Noble has the Tech class manual but they get $25 for it. You can also find free study guides as pdf online that you can download.

Here is a thought ... See if you can get a copy of the latest ARRL Technician Class License Manual from the Library.

Not using the book at all so far...;)

I checked our local library...they don't have it. I can buy it online for about $20 shipped...but I am trying to get away (dirt) cheap... ;)

Here (http://studyguide.eqth.info/Element2_Study_Guide.pdf) is the current Tech study guide.

Here's (http://www.kb6nu.com/2006techstudyguide.pdf) a study guide that is like a textbook. No questions and answers, just info.
