View Full Version : College dorms a death trap?

Well I will be living in the dorms this fall and I got to thinking these places could be easy to turn into prisons. There are only like 6 exits so all they would have to do is post guys with guns at those exits and I would be screwed. We are not allowed to have guns on campus so all of my guns will be at a friends house.

I don't know how colleges will rank on the list of targets but to me it would seem wise to have everybody stay in the dorm rooms then all they have to do is post guards at the exits and boom they have themselves a nice little camp to keep us in there.

Now I know that if SHTF most likely I will have time to get out (I think) but the chance of me waking up to see people standing at the exits with guns telling us we can't leave does worry me a little.

Granted there are TONS of college dorms in the US and they won't be able to get to them all. But it does seem that the colleges would be a good place to have camps at because of the football stadiums and the basketball arenas there.

I don't know I might be overthinking this LOL

I think the sheer size of a college campus would prevent a decent perimeter from being set up by local LE, NG would be a different story, did ya ever play capture the flag? when you assault the other team's flag position, you would say "let's rush em' they can't get us all!" They'll have a hard time getting everybody trying to leave the campus. I would just violate the school policy with reckless disregard and keep a gun in the dorm anyway, but that is just my opinion, and may or may not reflect the views of the owners, moderators, or advertisers of www.whenshtf.com ;) I don't think they'd lock down the campus during the day unless the were some kind of Virginia Tech type of shooting, so you're likely to have it happen at night... I HAVE NEVER HEARD A BETTER, OR MORE LEGITIMATE REASON FOR STAYING OUT ALL NIGHT PARTYING! If you aren't in your dorm room, they can't lock you inside! If you've been out all night streakin' with the frat bros. and the tri-delts you'll be safe, and hung over.

+2 the sheer size of the man power to take down and secure a facility such as a college is a monster on logistically, not to mention just the outer cordon!

Learn every entrance and exit of your school by heart and develop a E&E plan! All kinds of palsibilities if you open your mind into the asymmetrical enviroment.

hell you could hide with a bug out bag in the school dumpster for awhile then the trash truck will take you away then get to where you need to go. Search dogs smell trash keep on moving, supplies in bugout bag sustain till truck comes in a couple days. example

What else is around the school, just cause it doesnt look like much many things have multiple uses!

Any building of that size is a death trap. It screams target.
Fire: you're toast
Earthquake: toast
Airborne pathogen: toast
hostile take over: toast
VT nut job: toast

All that said, seeing that you don't have much choice of being there....know all your outs and options. Be prepaired and have several backup plans. As for the weapon thing.... tough call. Better to have an not need, but if so much as a wisper of it gets out your acedimic career is....toast.
