SHTF and you are either defending only your family and imediate property, or you have banded with your neighbors and are providing for a common defence.

You spot raiders attacking people outside of your defensive perimeter and for argument's sake out of effective range for rifle fire.

Do you render assistance to the beleaguered in an effort to drive them out of your imediate AO, or out of a sense of compassion?

Do you sit tight and watch them and hope they will be content with their victims but ready to dissuade them if they show interest in your direction?

I would go on the offensive. As Barney Fife used to say "nip it in the bud, nip it, nip it". Yes, I would help out the neighbors and would not give the bad guys a foothold in our territory. Whose to say that they would not come back after they used up the supplies they stole.

Once again...I am onboard with Jeep.

I would do it out of a sense of moral obligation as well as for the reasons he listed.

Tally Ho! I'm in. Don't put off iceing a scumbag today that might be a threat to you tomorrow. Who knows, the group that you assist may have some valuable experience that your group is in need of (medical, mechanical, agricultural, etc.) If not at least you've gotten rid of a potential immediate threat to your compound.

I'm in for several reasons. One, it shows the BGs that they have to deal with everybody, whih may be a deterrent to some. It also may engender good relations with those you are helping, a plus. And it keeps the BGs rom getting their supplies to use on you, as already mentioned. And as survivalists, are we not out to restore a semblance of normal life? Defense of others is for the grater good.

I would help:

The bad guys might have weapons and,or ammo....

The good guys might know something usefull or belong to a bigger friendly tribe to trade with

And for the record, if I can see it, It's within weapons range. :sniper:

And if I could take one or two of the bad guys alive.... :P

They are NOT from a tribe that you or your trade neighbors can barter with...

I would take them to the RED ROOM and discus the location of their home base, tactical strength, force deployments.......

Then I would call all friendly tribe elders to war council and draw our battle plans.

The assault force would then go to the "new friends" home, AND SACK EVERYTHING!!!!!

Then gather their stuff to be divided among the tribes that helped. :soldier: :apc: :sniper: :freedom: :shooting: :machinegun:

I'd try to waste the bad guys. never know when you will need the same favor from your neighboring clan.

Im with Bad Droid, Id help the neighbors, because you dont know 1.)That the rengades arent coming for your neighbordd when theyre done and #2, noone says this is a 1 time event. More renegades might attack your area and the other neighbors would be around to come to your aid (hopefully).

Move fast and hit them hard in surprise! You stand a chance of picking up some more weapons, ammo, food, and people you might want as hostages, or slaves.

I agree with all the above. Help the neighbors.

It lets everyone know you can kick ass, and will help friendlies.

Plus you can make the slaves build you big, worthless structures. Like pyramids and stuff. :)

I would help so long as my own immediate 'clan' was safe from ambush etc. What happens if enough of your group go to defend another and there are more renegades on your six waiting for you to leave so they can swoop in and take your stuff too.

Gotta watch the back door...but I'd help if there was any way to do so.

I know the OP said somethng to the effect of "out of rifle range", but I still think I'd lay down some .30'06 suppressive fire. If we can see clearly what's happening, the ol' '06 can probably reach out there. However, if it's much more than 300 yards, I probably wouldn't risk "collateral damage"; although I'd still consider sniping some baddies.

If the above held true, I'd have people on overwatch w/ the big hunting guns. Then we'd take AKs, SKSs, 30-30s, and such to the rescue. If the confrontation was indeed waaay out there, but close enough to warrant our support, I'd send a mix of hunting and mid-range weapons to the rescue while a majority at home provide overwatch to cover our return. Heck I may even have a support team go with us, and hold up about half way there, in case there's an ambush on us, or something.

Okay, I'll let this rest, I'm thinking way too hard.

Hope I'm not going OT with all of this.

Depending on the numbers in my group I would take a small fast group out to hit the rear of the attackers...Kill as many as possible, as fast as possible then withdraw...Hopefuuly without taking casualties to my group and causing the attackers to flee...This would all be done under the lethal coverage of 2-3 long range rifles from my group...And .338 lapua can provide alot of coverage....

what is effective rifle fire? if they're outside MY effective rifle fire then it's highly doubtful we'd see them attacking anyone at all. that said, of course we would render aid to those being attacked. it's the civilized thing to do. besides, the survivors would likely join the group and that'd make us stronger.

If I have banded with my neighbors I render aid and assistance. If I have not banded with mu neighbors there is probably a good reason why I have not. I'll sit this one out and observe; my unbanded neighbors may just be in the wrong.

I'm with MiamiARFan. What if your neighbors saw you doing nothing? Not gonna fly.

Yeah, I agree. Kill the bozos that might be dumb enough to attack you next. They won't win, but that doesn't mean someone might not get hit, you'll need to do repairs, use ammo, armor, etc. An ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure.

But find out what the story is from the people being attacked. If they seem sleazy, or you learn that the group you just wasted was hunting them for taking their food/burning their camp/killing their children, waste them too. Just because they're being attacked doesn't mean they're innocent, and just because someone was attacking them doesn't mean they were evil or unjustified

If they were just travelers attacked by bandits or some-such, then you can build a rapport and move on from there. But until then, any fighting on your land is your fight, too.

They will have their attention on your neighbors. I would Flank em and hit them from behind.
