Lots of good press out there about garlic. I've been growing it for about 10 years now. Here is a bed of it I planted in October, pic was taken about a month or so later.

Some links to what garlic is good for.

"For example, test tube and animal studies suggest that garlic can kill many types of bacteria, some viruses and fungal infections, and even intestinal parasites."

And here is what last year's crop looked like about early summer right before harvesting.

I never was much on eating garlic, but when we used to live in a small town nearby that is famous locally for its winged bird, the mosquito, we used to take garlic tablets. It really works to keep the bugs off. One half a tablet every day or other day sufficed. Course when you sweat, you kinda smell like garlic, but I got used to that. Something to think about, as after SHTF it would be easier to keep a lot of those tabs or simply grow and eat it than to try to keep a bunch of bugspray around.

It grows great in the Mulch ring around the base of trees.

Wow, I registed and immediately find a topic near and dear to my heart! Garlic!
I am a homesteader who grows about 1.5 acres of garlic for sale each year. Here is a quick tip: Your garlic looks great, but those hardneck varieties that you show in the picture should have the scape (the curly stalk) snapped off when still tender (just after it curls once). These are great in stirfrys or on the grill, and the bulb will store longer if the scape is not allowed to flower out. We grow 17 different varieties.

I love garlic and onions. :crybaby: Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about them. I probably eat half a sweet (Vidillia or the like) every day and I use lots of garlic powder, garlic salt and minced garlic cooking. That might explain why for the most part mosquitoes and deer flies don't bother me. Although the last month the mosquitoes must have gotten desperate.

??? Yeah, it runs in the 155 - 165 range? Onions and garlic are good to fight fat blood? I get a laugh out of the test results because I eat high fat foods. You can't convince me that just because the numbers are low I don't have plaque build up!

But hell, some studies say it doesn't work!
OF course, garlic that you grow at home for pennies surely can't do as well as Lipitor, Crestor, etc. that cost a few bucks each!

Wow ... I do many of the items ...
Blueberries, Garlic, Black Beans and Dark Green, Leafy Vegetables.
I guess that offsets the eggs and fat foods.
