Do you think there will be an attack on Iran before Bush leaves office?

Yes and my views are already in a couple of other threads.

No.
Bush knows very well that Kongress is in Demonrat hands and is going to stay that way at the very least if not get worse, and he knows McCain is in a tight race with Obama, and will not wish to damage McCain's chances of being elected, which is the only part of government still in repukeagain hands.
Yes, it's politics, and it's dirty.
But as a nation we have no stomach or will to do anything to Iran, so Iran will go unmolested unless Israel does something.

Yep, but not on "behalf of the US". I don't think Israel is just posturing, and I don't think they are acting "alone". I think little w is goading Israel into doing his dirty work.

I don't think Israel needs any goading. They are acutely aware of the threat to their survival as a nation if Iran gains nuclear capability. However, it would certain be in the best interests of Israel to act, if they intend to act, while Bush is still in office.

I think the Iranians would be foolish to start something prior to Bush leaving office. They'll continue to make noise, however, if they wait till Oflamma takes office they know they can do whatever they want and he'll only talk with them or maybe bomb a baby-food factory in the middle of the night. If JMC wins (he woln't) he'll be reluctant to respond forcefully unless the American public is strongly behind an action.

But Bush has nothing to lose because he's leaving and has shown that he's willing to take action despite not being the most popular move.

I disagree. I think Mccain would attack them just as quickly as Bush would. The American Public wants out of Iraq, and Mccain says we stay till its over, against what the American Public would want.

I say we will be and if so it wont hurt McCain it will help him. Think about how many people will look at Obama's experince and they will think twice or atleast I hope so on the Obama thing not war.

Israel should turn Teran into a waste land and destroy them with nukes. That would put a stop to Iran once and for all. They other countries might stop and think, damm they really mean business, lets stop all this b.s. now, before we are next.

Are you kidding? Then oil would be about $250-300 a barrel !! Which would mean gas prices would be unbelievablely high. Which in turn would cause the American economy to take an even bigger dump and probably throw us straight into a depression then of course SHTF !!!
That is the absolute last thing we need is a nuke to be tossed into Iran.

Have you have noticed lately that America can NOT muscle any country around anymore. Not like we should be able to. It all revolves around energy and more specifically oil. Are we the mightiest country in the world still? I'm not really sure. We have to tip toe around the raghead countries that want to kill us just so they will keep selling us overpriced oil.
I say we tell the democrats where they can stick their regulations and drillling bans and start drilling our VAST oil reserves. Then and only then, can we REALLY tell Iran, Saudi Arabia and Venenzuela (sp?) how it IS going to be. Then the only ass that will be getting kissed is Americas beause we don't need your F'n oil we got our own !!!

Hey new guy here.Like to throw my opinion in here.I believe we will go to war with Iran.I believe this is the very reason we are in Iraq and Afganistain. We now have an attack capability on 2 sides of Iran.Does it happen with Bush I think so.I think it will be quick and precise and then we will sit back and see if they respond and how they respond. If they respond we will pound them and hope no one joins on their side.Could be the begining of WW3,never know,td

Much of the rise in cost of crude oil can be attrubitted to fears that Iran will mine the Strait of Hormuz, effectively pinching off 40% of the world's crude. Without a doubt, we have the carrier groups AND nuclear subs in position to stabilise this area. I think the stabilizing force of USA naval power and all of its accompanying destuctive force can secure a thin waterway.

I vote no because I think they will wait to see if Obama becomes president. Obama and McCain will have very different policies and I think that will be especially important with regards to how they will handle politics with Muslim countries. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we will dodge the bullet either way. I just think that it will be approached differently depending on who is POTUS at the time.

heard somewhere before that if war breaks out during elections that the president stays in office & elections get suspended..anyone know if that true ???
I had to help my kid write a report a couple of years ago on FDR, so I think I can answer this.
George Washington began the tradition of only serving two terms as President when he declined to run for office after his second term. There is actually no rule against it. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt tried to run for third terms, but people raised h*ll about it. The only President that served more than two terms in office was Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in his forth term when he died. Evidently he made people happy enough that they didn't mind so much about having their gold confiscated. FDR did not, however, suspend elections. In fact he announced he had no intention to run again unless he was drafted to, which he basically was. Can't see that happening this time. :)
That concludes tonight's history lesson!
