Anyone see on the news that turkey got permission from the government to invade north Iraq to battle the Kurds? COuld turn iraq into a bigger mess then it already is. What do you think the US will do about it? They said they "Want to stay out" of it, but I dont see how they could, and I would THINK they have to back Iraq since we did invade it and all...
i think if Turkey comes in the only option the US/Iraq will have is to help the Turk army. If they just sit there and watch them both countries will lose credibility and there is no way in hell they would forcibly stop them from coming in. So them will help them get the guys they are after and get them out as quick as possible.

I seen it last night on CNN. Talking about a SNAFU. This can only turn out bad for our troops and for Iraq as a country. The north around the Kurds is one of the few area's our guys don't have problems at. Add Turkey and it is not going to be Thanksgiving. How in the hell can two different wars be going on in one country at a time?
I watched it too on CNN last night. Its not going to be good for our troops. The Kurds haven't been much of a problem in this war. Hopefully its just going to be some saber rattling on Turkey's on part.

60k troops amassing at the border sounds like a pre-invasion setup, not a show of force. I hate to say it but I think this is going to happen regardless of what the US says.

You know I find it strange that they have broadcasted this to the world. They will be invading a area of difficult terrain, were the people have been fighting for quite a while now. Plus I don't think our military will chill while another country attacks a country we are helping. Our guys will be put in a mighty rough spot if this goes down.

It's also because Turkey ABSOLUTELY resents the rights of the Kurds to form their own state in Northern Iraq, there has been a proposal to split Iraq up into Kurdish, Sunni, Shiite states and Turkey doesn't want that. A friend of mine working in Iraq says spec ops guys told him they had fought Turkish soldiers during the first weeks of the war in 03' that had made incursions into N. Iraq, so this will be only the 1st public invasion, by the way.. the Kurds helped us with intel in Iraq much like the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, and Northern Iraq is very quiet as far as insurgent activity. We'll leave them to get slaughtered just like we left the Montagnards in Vietnam.

Turkey won't make a move .... yet. They will be told to wait. Until a move is made by coalition forces to hit nuclear targets within Iran. Then in a move to divert forces from an all out offensive across the Iraqi border, the Turks will hit hard in Iran to take the heat off of our forces. This is of course only conjecture on my part, but they won't risk taking unilateral action on their own.

That's a good possibility Miami. I hadn't thought of it like that. A trade off for Bush so he can have a major collation partner.

It happened small scale "About 300 Turkish troops have crossed into northern Iraq in a raid against Kurdish rebels, Iraqi officials say."

This story says we gave intelligence to turkey, http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCr ... SN17404581 (http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN17404581)
This one says that the US is angry at them for doing it
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22307173/
So what is it? are we angry at them or helping them! :ticked:

First problem is the sources of the news articles.
We give intelligence to everyone in hopes they will do our bidding. Whether we are angry at them or helping depends on what time it is.
The President of Pakistan had a good one liner ... I can't quote tt exactly, but pertaining to the capture of Bin Ladan he said the US had given him the intelligence as to his location. He said it was great but he did not have the capability to go in and get him. The US has air superiority and resources but did not ask if we could go in after him.
The whole thing is crazy! Damn politics! :bang:
